Play practice

Every week we practice our play that we'll show on 2/10 at 6pm. On Wednesdays we practice as a whole group.

Cardinal art

Today we took some time to do art in the classroom. Guided drawing projects work on direction following skills, visual planning and processing and tap into creativity. As always, this period was calm, quiet and everyone was centered. I read a bit about cardinals to the class and then walked the students through drawing one. Then they added watercolor to their pictures. What a lovely activity!

Judge!

A spelling game that we love is judge. Today we played to practice out new glued sounds and trick words. Ask your child how this game is played.

Reading group work

After a reading group finishes reading a book, we try to do some follow up comprehension work.
This group read a book about different kinds of animals. After, they had to record a fact about each animal in the group.
This group read a biography of Jane Goodall. They recorded their mental images.

Collecting data

What a fun math lesson we had today! Children chose a question to collect data on. Then they asked each first grader their opinion such as 'which animal would you rather be: monkey, snake or sea turtle?'. Then they organized and analyzed the data. We were up and moving around and the energy was awesome!

Measurement

Our new math unit focuses on measurement. We have been comparing lengths of objects using 'shorter than' and 'longer than'. We looked at city blocks to measure paths and today we began using centimeter cubes to measure objects.
