Save the date!

I have tentatively set a date of 4/6 to take a field trip to visit the Morse Farm Sugar House in Montpelier. I'm looking for parents who want to come and help manage small groups of kids.  We will leave at about 8:30 and return around noon. Parents are welcome to drive in their cars. Let me know if you'd like to come. The cost is $3.30 per person. It's going to be great! Just waiting for the bus company to confirm that we have a bus driver.

Sewing

Yesterday we started sewing our pillows. Each child had a chance to use the sewing machine. It was fun to see which kids were slow and cautious and which loved speed! Stay tuned for pictures of the finished product!

Pillows

We finally started working on our reading loft pillows. Children helped me to pin the fabric. Tomorrow, we sew!

Window

During our conversation about the weather yesterday, one of the kids commented on the snowflakes still hanging on our windows. They said, "we should take those down and put up flowers!" The other kids agreed and were so excited about it, I changed our afternoon plans and we made flowers!
This new display really brightens our room and will hopefully help Spring to finally arrive!
Take a look when you come in for your conference.

Solving sea creature problems

In math we have begun solving- and creating- sea creature word problems! We have been talking about how mathematicians solve tricky problems and how they show their answer and prove it.
We started by acting out problems, solving picture problems and working together.
After a few days of practice, we started designing our own problems! We created shark problems and will create whale and seal problems too.

Conference forms

Please look in your child's backpack today for the conference scheduling slip. I forgot to send them home yesterday so I want to make sure you all get them today and send them back as quickly as possible.
Thanks! I'm looking forward to showing you all that your child has been working on in the classroom!

Sugaring

Welcome back!
It was wonderful to come back to school this morning and see the kids again. Everyone was happy to see their friends again.
Over the next month, we are going to be starting a few new investigations: the sugaring process and starting seeds.
I'm looking for a sugaring operation that we could visit. Know of a good one with someone who would welcome 11 kids into their sugar house? Someone who would be willing to answer many questions and let kids be part of the process? Send their names my way!
The sap should start running soon!
