Special Visitors

Yesterday I warned the children that we would have special visitors first thing in the morning today. When they arrived at school we had two new kids in our room. Goat kids! They were adorable. Thanks for bringing in the goats, Lucia!

Engineers

These first graders wondered, Can we build a building that can hold us both? Of course they figured it out!!!

Partner Read

Our class has been really enjoying talking... Even when they should be reading. I decided not to fight it and to embrace it instead! I introduced partner reading during our Daily 5 time. Today I showed the class the I Read To You, You Read To Me book series by Mary Ann Hoberman. They were so excited!
How great to be excited about reading and doing it with a partner! The engagement was high and amount of time spent reading much higher!

Tooth tutor

This morning Tammy our school Tooth Tutor came to visit us. She talked about sugary drinks. We learned that water has no sugar in it, juice has about 8 teaspoons of sugar and some sodas have almost 20 teaspoons of sugar!!! Then we got to try different brushing activities- brushing stuffed animals and flossing with egg cartons and playdough.

Play practice

Every week we practice our play that we'll show on 2/10 at 6pm. On Wednesdays we practice as a whole group.

Cardinal art

Today we took some time to do art in the classroom. Guided drawing projects work on direction following skills, visual planning and processing and tap into creativity. As always, this period was calm, quiet and everyone was centered. I read a bit about cardinals to the class and then walked the students through drawing one. Then they added watercolor to their pictures. What a lovely activity!
