measurement- exploring lengths

In math we started exploring how to decide if something is longer or shorter than an other object. We started today with lining up the ends of the two objects and then ordering them from shortest to longest.
We will continue this investigation throughout next week.

Writing Celebration

In writing we have been working on writing books about our lives- true stories. For the past few weeks, each day we have been focusing on different aspects of writing true stories- thinking of a story, orally planning it with a partner, making sure the pictures show who is in the story, where it happened and WHAT happened. We even experimented with speech bubbles! The kids have worked so hard! This week they picked one story to edit and make the best it could be. Today we celebrated! Each student read his or her book to the class, sitting in the special author's chair. When they finished, we clapped and I awarded them with a Super Writer badge to wear for the rest of the day!

Cora's request

I love how connected the students in this class are with the blog! So often kids tell me about looking at the blog with their families. What a wonderful connection this builds between home and school! Cora asked if I would post some photos of recent pattern block creations. Here you go, Cora!

One more Halloween post

To conclude our pumpkin investigation we investigated a pumpkin I grew at home and some other types of pumpkins from farm stands and stores. We filled out this chart:
And read the book you see above called How Many Seeds In A Pumpkin. Then we found out how many seeds were in the pumpkin by scooping them out and counting them by 10s.

The pumpkin had 392 seeds! Wow!
We then had some Halloween treats from Wren and Q. They were as tasty and they were adorable!

Halloween Fun!

Here are some fun photos of our class all dressed up in our costumes! Everyone looked great. The teachers decided that this year we would be characters from books. Gina and I dressed up as characters from the book Miss Nelson is Missing . The kids love this book. Ask them about the characters in this funny book.

Roll and cover

We did a fun dice activity this afternoon. It was festive and math in one activity!

Today in math we assembled quilt number 2!
A bit more complicated than the first!
