Bees

Our 4 winds lesson this month was about bees. We had a great time watching the puppet show, going on a bee hunt , doing the waggle dance to tell our friends where to find flowers and dressing Andrea up like a bee! We also investigated comb and dead bees. We are going to be focusing on writing about bees and doing a project with technology in the next two weeks.

Shaving cream

To practice our red words today we used shaving cream. We'll take our end of the year proficiency test the last week of school so we'll be practicing these hard words a lot! First graders will have practicing spelling words as homework for the next two weeks. Multi-sensory ways of practicing are the best!

Build it, break it, make it

As part of our focus on place value, we have been playing a lot of games that help reinforce this concept. Today we played build it, break it, make it. Students used a game board to collect cubes. Then they had to group the cubes in 10s and 1s. After, they needed to record their number. Students played 4 rounds!

Science and writing together? Oh my!

We have started a new science unit investigating force and motion. We are using a new writing curriculum that has an exciting writing unit that also is investigating force and motion! So, we've combined the two subjects together.
We've been writing lab reports about two experiments with ramps- studying how scientists write lab reports. Here are some pictures of us setting up, writing and exploring ramps!
